Toxic Dog Treats

To many people dogs are more than just mans best friend, they’re family. If you take care of your family with the best nutrition and supplements available, doesn’t it make sense that you do the same for your pets? I just learned about a dog treat that you probably give your dogs that could actually be harming them…rawhide.

Did you know that most rawhide for dogs is commonly cured with formaldehyde? Formaldehyde is a chemical that is very toxic to both humans and animals. Formaldehyde’s effects are so toxic that the Agency for Research on Cancer has classified it as “carcinogenic to humans.” Rawhide also has the tendency to swell in a dog’s stomach, which can lead to life threatening intestinal problems for your pup.

At Basic Foods, we carry rawhide for dogs that is 100% formaldehyde free. Instead, our rawhides are cured with salt and lime. Because our rawhide is formaldehyde free, you don’t have to worry that your dog’s stomach might swell when eating it. We also have many different kinds of dog treats and dog jerky. With the holidays coming up, pamper your four-legged friend by buying him the healthiest dog treats around!

How to Beat a Cold or the Flu

With the weather slowly starting to change and cold and flu season creeping up on us, I thought I would fill you in on some of my favorite supplements. These are products that I have found help me get over a cold in no time. They are products I have personally tried over the years but I definitely don't take all of them at once.

The first thing is a supplement that I have been taking for years every time I start feeling the slightest inkling of a cold coming on. It is a little secret I have found that I think stops a cold dead in its tracks. It is called Wellness Formula by Source Naturals. The first thing my mother
always asks me when she finds out I am sick is, " Have you been taking your Wellness Formula?" With this product, the name says it all. It contains a multitude of herbs, antioxidants, vitamin, and minerals that help boost your immune system and fight off anything that might be coming your way. It is suggested to take three tablets every three or so hours. By taking Wellness Formula and getting at least 8 hours of sleep, I feel like a new person the very next day!

Wellness Formula is also a great products to bring with you when traveling. Highly populated areas like airports and cruise ships are breeding grounds for colds or the flu. Many people take Wellness Formula for a day or two before a trip to boost their immune systems so they can fight off any bug they might come in contact with.

Another product that I have found that has wonderful immune system benefits is Vitamin D3. Vitamin D3 is a product I have added to my daily regime year-round. D3 is one of the easiest pills to take because it is only the size of a pea. Don't let its small size fool you though, it packs a lot of potency into one little pill. There has been a lot of research done on Vitamin D3 over the years linking it to a lot of potential health benefits ranging from immune system booster to cancer fighter. I take it daily to keep my body running at its optimal potential and to ward off anything that I might be exposed to. Vitamin D3 has so many benefits I can't get into all of them today, so Ill save that for another post.

The next herb I am going to tell you about is a great immune system booster that Hippocrates used to refer to as "the medicine chest." This herb is the Elderberry. The Elder
-berry is used for its antioxidant ability and its ability to boost your immunity while helping with coughs, colds, flu, chest congestion, viral and bacterial infections. The bioflavonoids and proteins in the Elderberry juice are thought by many people to destroy the ability of cold and flu viruses to infect a cell. In 1995, Elderberry juice was actually used in Panama to treat a flu epidemic. Some scientists also think that Elderberry juice reduces the oxidation of LDL Cholesterol (the bad kind of cholesterol), therefore lowering the risk of heart disease. Another benefit of the Elderberry is there are a variety of different ways you can take it. It comes in a juice and also a pill form. A lot of people enjoy the liquid but I personally like the New Chapter Immunity Take Care Lozenge. This blueberry flavored lozenge gets into the bloodstream within 30 minutes and provides a broad spectrum of herbal chemistries and bioactives. I usually take one lozenge at the first sight of any cold or flu symptom and I really notice the results.

I love the next two products not only because they help me get over a bug quickly, but also because they are both liquids that taste delicious!

The first is olive leaf. The olive leaf is very interesting because its medicinal uses have
been traced back to the days of the ancient Egyptians. Research on olive leaf has found it to contain a lot of antioxidant powers, which make it a great weapon in fighting disease and even aging. Olive Leaf Complex is a concentrated liquid extract made directly from fresh olive leaves. It has antioxidant capability of almost double that of green tea and 400 percent higher than Vitamin C. My favorite is Olive Leaf Complex by Barlean's Organic Oils. All it takes is a tablespoon of the peppermint flavored liquid daily. This is one thing I actually enjoy taking because it tastes delicious and it a nice change from taking supplements in pill form. For more information on Olive Leaf Complex, click here.

The last product I like to take when I am not feeling my best is a liquid called Stabilized Oxygen by Oxylife. It is an anti-microbial immune system booster. This product contains stabilized oxygen that is absorbed directly into the bloodstream in minutes. This blast of oxygen in your bloodstream can help your body eliminate toxins and poisons from your cells, tissue, and blood while helping to boost your energy. It also contains Colloidal Silver which has a long history of destroying viruses, bacteria and fungi on contact. As an added benefit, many people also take this product to help boost their body's recovering capabilities after a hard workout. It comes in berry, unflavored or my personal favorite orange pineapple. All it takes is a tablespoon in the morning or at night, but it tastes so good I would take it all day long if I could.

These are just a few supplements I have noticed great results with when I have gotten sick over the years. I never take all of these supplements at the same time though. There are also many other supplements that target specific symptoms. If you are interested in any of these products or some alternatives stop by the store and talk to someone in the supplements department. They deal with these products every day and talk to people who have personal experiences with them. The supplements representatives can help you find what is best for you to keep you feeling your best in these upcoming winter months!
As always, if you have tried any of these products leave a comment here on the blog or in the testimonials section! We love to hear from you!

What is this RAWvolution all about??

There is a big eating trend that is sweeping cities across the country. Many people call it the RAWvolution. It is a diet consisting of eating food in their purest state. Cities like LA, Austin and Chicago are creating restaurants that cater solely to this RAW lifestyle. We have even added a raw section to our store and are now producing different RAW dishes daily. After watching all of the delicious raw and living things coming out of the bakery for the past few weeks, I decided to figure out what this diet was all about. To my surprise, after some researching, I decided to give the diet a try.

A Raw diet consists of eating raw fruits and vegetables, nuts, grains and sprouted seeds. These foods are all rich in naturally occurring enzymes and nutrients. Once any food is cooked over 118 degrees, all of its naturally occurring enzymes are destroyed. Because the enzymes are destroyed, our bodies are forced to produce the enzymes needed to digest them. It is impossible for our bodies to completely produce these enzymes which can result in the foods being only partially digested. This can leave fats, proteins and starches unabsorbed and left in our bodies. This can result in issues such as fatigue, constipation, disease, indigestion, irritability, brain fogs and so much more.

The Standard American Diet of meat, bread, dairy, processed and cooked food, alcohol and caffeine lack all of these essential enzymes that are needed for proper nutrient absorption and digestion. This diet also yields a very acidic state in our bodies. Think back for a minute to the days of high school chemistry and the PH scale. Any substance can be either acidic or basic, alkalized. Our bodies need to be in a mainly alkalized state in order to take in nutrients and function on a cellular level. Since the Standard American Diet keeps us in an Acidic State, we are never fully benefiting from anything we eat. Foods such as cucumbers, tomatoes, and apples are very alkalizing and are also staples to a raw diet. After being on a Raw diet for only 3 days, I was able to test and see that my body had switched from a PH of 5, considered dangerously acidic to a PH of 7 which is right in the middle where it should be. (If you are interested in performing this test yourself, we carry test strips which can be used throughout the day to test PH levels in the body)

When I first started reading about following a Raw diet, I was very intrigued by the ideas behind it. We’ve always known that fruits and vegetables are the healthiest staples to our diet. It also makes sense that processed foods aren’t the best for us. But what can you eat on this diet? Well as I have come to find the choices are endless. Debby back in the deli has been working hard to come up with a lot of delicious RAW items. Some of her latest creations have included raw lasagna, with noodles made from fresh zucchini, chocolate cake covered with banana and caramel sauce, stuffed tomatoes, mock tuna salad, Italian casserole, lemon tart dessert, fresh juices and so much more.

Becoming completely raw is a very difficult task for a lot of people. That is why it is suggested that to start just try adding a little more raw into your diet. A diet consisting of 70% raw is a great start. Try to incorporate more fruits and vegetables into your diet while limiting processed foods and sugars, or come by and try some of our new raw dishes, created daily. You'll feel better and your body will thank you for it.

Product Spotlight: Energy Force Bracelets

If you have watched any professional sporting event lately or looked on the wrists of people around you, you might have noticed a growing trend...Energy Force bracelets.
They have become such staples to athletes, on and off the field, that people everywhere are rushing out to get their hands on one.

What is all this hype about? Well, let me give you the science behind the bracelets.

Energy force bracelets work off of the idea that everything- whether it is a human, animal, or material object- has its own energy frequency resonating within it. In humans, there is a constant exchange and balance of positive and negative electrical charges. These charges are called ions, and they are what make the systems in our bodies work. When these charges work in-sync with one another, our bodies perform at their optimal level and we are healthy.

Energy Force bracelets are created to restore this balance. They are embedded with two holographic disks. Each disk is charged with an electrical frequency that reacts with your body’s frequencies to help restore it to the optimal electrical balance.

When wearing an Energy Force bracelet, stamina, balance, endurance, and energy can all be restored within the body. As a result, your brain function may also improve. This improves flexibility and muscle response. Don’t get too excited, the bracelets won’t turn you into a super hero, but they will help your body to reach its highest potential. Most people notice the effects instantaneously. If you don’t trust me read what people who have tried the bracelet have said.

If you are still a little skeptical, come visit the store and try one on. There is a very simple balance test we can help you perform with out the bracelet and with it. This will allow you to see difference the bracelet can make.

Energy Force bracelets come in a variety of sizes and colors. There are other similar products on the market but we’re sticking with Energy Force because each bracelet comes with a lifetime warranty. That’s pretty much like guaranteed energy for life! If you still have questions check out the company's Frequently Asked Question page or come in the store and talk to a Customer Service Rep who can tell you more about the product and the effects that customers have seen. If you already have a bracelet and have noticed the difference, leave a comment and let us know!

To thank you for taking the time to read the blog, I have included a coupon that is good toward the purchase of an Energy Force bracelet. Just print out this coupon and bring it in with you!

The Scary Truth About Your Beef

Have you ever heard the saying "you are what you eat?" Until recently, I have only thought about this saying in relation to the things I wanted to eat but knew I would regret later- cinnamon rolls, pizza, pasta...yum. But what about the food that is being fed to the animals we eat? I guess the saying applies to them too, which means they are what they eat. Have you ever stopped to think about what is actually in that juicy steak you are about to eat? Or what was fed to the cow that gave you that delicious burger you had the other day? When you think about it, it is important to know because inevitably, what goes into their body, goes into yours.

Though most people are unaware, conventional farming uses many methods for raising animals that result in less than optimal meat. There are many disturbing things that I bet you don't know about how the meat you eat is being raised.

Conventional farmers frequently feed their livestock antibiotics and hormones, which consequently can be passed on to the consumer.

  • 70% of all antibiotics used in the United States go to livestock and poultry. These antibiotics help the animal fight the diseases that can be contracted in overpopulated feed lots. This also poses a problem because when antibiotics are overused, bacteria can become resistant to them.
  • The use of hormones in livestock is also present. The unnecessary purpose of hormones is to speed up the growth of the cow and stimulate milk growth to allow farmers to produce more.
Conventional farmers feed the animals diets that are created to lower costs and boost their productivity.

  • The main source of food for most live stock is genetically modified grain (corn) and soy. These two ingredients are readily available to farmers at very low costs. By feeding corn, the animals are made as fat as possible in very little time. Pesticides and fertilizers are also commonly found on the grain that is fed to livestock
  • Another way farmers keep costs low is by adding "by-product feed stuff." This usually refers to the waste products that come out of the manufacturing of human food. Some items commonly used in cattle diets are: candy, stale pastry waste, chicken feathers, potato waste, and city garbage.
Grain diets create an unhealthy acidity in the animals body.

  • There are many forms of E. Coli that are acid resistant. An animal with an acidic stomach has the ability to breed this bacteria which can then be passed down to the meat you eat.
  • By feeding the livestock a diet of grain, the acidity is slowly killing the animal. To counter- act this, more antibiotics are pumped into the animal which can then be passed down to the meat.
  • This high grain diet results in meat and dairy with high levels of Omega-6 fatty acids. Though Omega-6 is an essential part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle, animals fed in feedlots have up to 10 times more than animals raised on a natural grass diet. This overabundance of Omega-6 fatty acid can increase the risk of obesity, cancer, inflammatory disease and diabetes in most Americans.

Reading all of that makes that big steak or burger look a lot less appealing doesn't it? Well don't worry, there is an answer. First of all when choosing meat, it is important to make sure your meat is USDA Certified Organic. This means that the animals are fed organic feed and given no hormones or antibiotics. Also, it is VERY important to look for Grass-Fed meat. Grass-fed meat has so many advantages over grain-fed it is going to make you mad you didn't switch a long time ago. Here are the facts on Grass-Fed beef:

Grass-fed is the most natural diet for livestock.

  • If you think about it logically, cows are herbivores that were born with digestive systems created to take plants, legumes and grasses and convert them into proteins.
  • By feeding them something their bodies are made to eat, they are synthesizing all of the nutrients properly and as a result the meat we eat is more nutrient rich.
Grass-fed meat is lower in fat than grain-fed meat.

  • Grass-fed meat can have as much as 1/3 less saturated fat than a comparable cut of grain-fed meat. A lower level of saturated fats is very beneficial to our health because saturated fats are frequently linked to heart disease and other medical conditions.
  • Because grass-fed meat is lower in fat, it is also lower in calories. The difference between a 6-ounce steak from a grain-fed cow and a 6-ounce steak from a grass-fed cow is around 100 calories. Think about how many calories you could save every year by making the simple switch to grass-fed!
Grass-fed cattle have more nutrients that are essential to our bodies.

  • A grass-fed diet and healthy lifestyle allows grass-fed meat to be higher in Vitamin-E, Vitamin-A, beta-carotene, and Vitamin-C.
  • There is also a higher level of Omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for our hearts, brains and over-all well being. It is estimated that only 40% of Americans get an adequate amount of these essential fatty acids.
  • The ratio of Omega-6 fatty acids to Omega-3s is also much healthier in grass-fed cattle.
  • Grass-fed meat is also higher in another good fat for our bodies, Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA). In addition to having many antioxidant and anti-cancer properties, CLA has also been attributed to reducing the risk for cardiovascular disease, fighting inflammation, and helping with weight management. The CLA content in grass-fed meat is as much as 5 times higher than that of grain-fed.
We have just started carrying grass-fed beef at Basic Foods, and we are very excited about it! I recommend giving it a try because as you can see it is definitely worth it. Here are a couple of tips to make your grass-fed beef even better:
  • Before you start cooking, let the meat sit at room temperature. The meat cooks better when isn't right out of the fridge.
  • Grass-fed beef is a leaner cut which means it usually requires a little less cooking time, so make sure you watch it closely the first time you cook it.
  • If cooking meat with other things, use a slightly lower temperature. Aim for around 25 degrees lower than you would normally use.
  • When cooking any kind of meat, remember to use tongs to flip or turn it. When you use a fork or knife, you can accidentally puncture the meat which causes the flavorful juices to escape.
  • After your meat is cooked, let the meat sit for a few minutes before your slice it. This will allow the juice to settle and redistribute within the meat.
I hope you are as excited about grass-fed meat as I am! If you want even more information check out this TIME article about the Grass-Fed Revolution and this website that talks about all the grass-fed info and facts you could ever ask for. Let me know if you decide to make the switch, I would love to hear your feedback.

Product Spotlight: PB2 Low Fat Peanut Butter

I have to admit, peanut butter is one of my guilty pleasures. I could eat it on anything- bananas, apples, smoothies, brownies, cookies, cakes you name it. I have also been known to eat it by the spoonful...straight from the jar. Despite the fact that it is both delicious and satisfying, I always have a guilty feeling after indulging on it. With the average tablespoon of peanut butter being around 180 calories and 18 grams of fat, who doesn't feel guilty afterwards? When trying to be healthy and watch your weight, those numbers can seriously set you back.

The day I came across PB2 I nearly lost it. I was so excited. Now I am able to eat peanut butter without any of the guilt! Sound too good to be true? Its not!

The people over at Bell Plantation really figured out how to do it right. They use a special process that presses the oil (and fat) out of the peanuts without adding preservatives or altering its chemical makeup. This special process reduces the fat in the peanut butter by 85%. What you are left with is the delicious peanut taste, without the calories and fat of traditional peanut butter. That leaves it with just 45 calories and 1 gram of fat for 2 tablespoons!

PB2 is so easy to use and can be put on ANYTHING. All you do it take 2 tablespoons of the powder and mix it with 1 tablespoon of water or the liquid of your choice. Stir it, and it turns into the exact consistency and tast of normal peanut butter. I have used it in smoothies, on fruit, and in recipes while baking. I can even staisfy my afternoon sweet tooth by making a little bowl of it and eating it straight. Click here to see some great recipes that use PB2. It comes in original and chocolate peanut butter (my personal favorite). This product will satisfy all of your peanut butter cravings, while still allowing you to fit in your jeans!

Coconut Oil: Natures Cure-All

Who doesn't like coconuts? The smell alone is strong enough to remind me of a tropical oasis. But did you also know that coconuts and coconut oil have also been proven to be very beneficial to your health? I had no idea until I read the eye-opening book Coconut Cures: Preventing and Treating Common Health Problems with Coconut by Bruce Fife. I have recommended this book to a lot of people and they have all found it equally informative and interesting.

This book focuses on coconut oil and its miraculous healing powers. Research has shown that taking coconut internally can have health benefits including weight loss, increase immunity, heart disease prevention, protection against cancer, skin and hair benefits, along with relief from diabetes, high blood pressure and kidney problems, in addition to MANY more. Coconut oil can also be used externally to alleviate symptoms from issues such as psoriasis, acne, rashes, scars and open wounds.

I am sure you are saying, "How can oil be good for me and help me in ways including weight loss?" I'll be the first to admit that before reading this book and doing research on coconut oil, I was a huge skeptic! One thing that most people do not know about coconut oil, is that its chemical composition is completely different than that of other oils. While most oils are long-chain fatty acids, coconut oil is a medium-chain fatty acid, or medium-chain triglyceride. The different sizes of the fatty acids determine how our bodies metabolize them. Our bodies have a difficult time breaking down long-chain fatty acids and therefore predominately store them as fats in the body. It is said that about 98% of the oil we consume falls into this category which explains the negative connotation tied to oils.

Coconut oil on the other hand is a medium-chain fatty acid. Its smaller size allows it to be more easily digested in the body. It has been proven to help boost metabolism. This boost in your metabolism may help you burn extra calories every day which could ultimately lead to weight loss. Unlike long chain fatty acids, medium chain fatty acids do not have negative effects on cholesterol and they also help protect against heart disease. In addition, this type of fatty acids is immediately processed in the liver and converted into energy once they enter the body.

Another benefit of coconut oil being a medium chain fatty acid is its composition of Lauric Acid. Lauric Acid is anti-fungal and one of the most essential fats for maintaing a strong immune system. The only other place you can find high levels of Lauric Acid is in Mother's milk. If you are interested in knowing a little more about Lauric Acid, check out this website.

Coconut oil can be taken internally or externally. It is recommended that your daily consumption is 1 tablespoon for every 50 pounds of body weight you carry. If the thought of eating straight oil worries you a little, you can start small by substituting oils you use daily for coconut oil. You can use it when cooking, baking, and even in smoothies. You can also use it on your skin through out the day. I have been rubbing coconut oil on a scar that I got from a dog bite. After using the oil for only a few days, I have already noticed a significant lightening of the scar.

As with anything you take for your body you should be very conscious about the quality. The two most important words to look for are "extra-virgin" and "organic." Give coconut oil a try and let me know what it does for you!

Why Eat Organic?

We have always been told that eating fruits and vegetables is a vital part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. This is emphasized through the USDA’s recommendation that we eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables daily. The problem today though, is that use of pesticides on our food is growing at an alarming rate, causing our healthy diet to possibly be detrimental to our health.

Conventional farmers use more than 400 chemical pesticides when growing their crops. What is left over for the consumer is pesticide residue that remains, even after washing. Through the use of pesticides and chemicals on crops, we are being exposed to hazardous toxins daily, without even realizing it. These toxins have been linked to diseases such as breast cancer, autism, Parkinson’s Disease and birth defects. The presence of pesticides has been seen even in infants. This is a clear indication that the toxins are passed on from the mother.

The use of pesticides on our food is even more dangerous for children. Statistics have shown that the average American child gets 5 or more servings of pesticide residuals each day. Because their bodies are growing and undergoing rapid cellular development, they are very vulnerable to the effects of pesticides. Studies have even shown that children with higher levels of pesticide exposure are twice as likely to develop ADHD.

If you are curious about just how much residue is left on your food check out this website. It lets you choose your food and find out exactly what chemical is on it. Get ready though, there are some long words you won’t be able to pronounce.

While the idea of pesticides in our food is scary, there is still a way to eat fruits and vegetables without having to worry about the consequences. The answer to all these problems is eating organic. “Organically grown” refers to a method of growing food free from chemical fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides on a land clean of such chemicals for at least 36 months. The use of pesticides isn't necessary in organic farming. By building healthy soils, organic farmers find that healthy plants are better able to resist disease and insects. There are strict federal regulations on the organic industry which help insure that organic food is as safe as possible.

If I haven’t convinced you yet, here are a few more reasons why you should always choose to eat organic.

Strict Rules

· The National Organic Program lays out requirements for both growing and processing organic foods

Strong Oversight

· Strictly regulated by the USDA

· All FDA food safety requirements apply

Organic foods are rich in nutrients

· Including iron, magnesium and vitamin which are critical to maintaining good health

No genetic modification

· Under organic standards, genetically modified crops and ingredients are not allowed

It tastes good

· Well-balances soil produces strong, healthy plants that become nourishing food for people and animals

· Many people actually prefer to eat organic food because they think it tastes better.

No additives

· Organic food doesn’t contain additives that can cause health problems such as heart disease, migraines, hyperactivity and osteoporosis

Organic producers are leaders in innovative research

· Organic farmers excel with innovative on-farm research aimed at reducing pesticide use and minimizing agricultures impact on the environment.

Remember, when shopping for food, make sure it is labeled with the “USDA Organic” seal. Products labeled “100% Organic” and carrying the “USDA Organic” seal are just that – they contain all organically produced ingredients. Its your body, make sure you feed it the best.

Welcome to the Basic Foods blog! I am sure you are wondering, “What is Basic Foods?”, “What can they do for me?” and “What is this blog all about?” Well, I’m here to answer all of your questions.

“What is Basic Foods?”

Many years ago, Basic Foods was a faint idea in the heads of 4 ambitious people in Beaumont, Texas. They saw the unhealthy lifestyle that was going on in the community around them and they wanted a change! They had a dream of educating the people of Southeast Texas on healthy living, while giving them an outlet to buy food that is healthy. Hence in September of 1997, Basic Foods was born. Basic Foods is now the largest natural and organic store between Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Houston, Texas.

With over 10,000 square feet and 5 departments, there is little that Basic Foods doesn’t have. Let me tell you a little about the departments:

Supplements Department

Think all supplements are created equal? Think again. In a perfect world you could pick up a bottle of vitamins at a drugstore, grocery store, or even a gas station and they would all be the same. Lets be honest though, that’s not the case. The supplement industry is rapidly growing and everyone wants a piece of it. How can you make sure that the supplements you are putting in your body are of the highest quality? Well come on over because we’ve already done all the work for you.

We only deal with companies that manufacture in facilities that are FDA approved. Federal Drug Administration approved…sounds like a big deal to me. The supplement companies we buy from also test for purity and potency. What does that mean? It means that you are getting exactly what the bottle says you are getting. Wouldn’t it be nice if everything were like that?

Do you find yourself tired all the time? Need to lose a few pounds? Feel like your immune system isn’t where it should be? With millions of supplements out there, how are you supposed to know what to take to help with ailments like these? Well this might be surprising but you don’t have to know, because we do. We have experienced Supplements Representatives that can help you with just about anything. What happens if they don’t know? They’ll find out for you. Sounds like a good deal to me.

Grocery Department

The grocery department houses such a variety of products I don’t even know where to begin. We have everything from baking flour and canned beans to tofu noodles and coconut butter. Before we bring new products into the store, we taste them and make sure their ingredients meet our standards. This way you know that everything you are buying is natural and organic. Trust me there are some products out there that haven’t met our criteria, and rest assured you wont see them inside the store.
Gluten intolerant? We have more products that cater these needs than you will know what to do with. Imagine being able to eat pasta, bread, cake and other goodies while still maintaining a gluten-free lifestyle. Sounds nice doesn’t it? Well we’ve got all of this and more. Just because you are cutting gluten out of your life doesn’t mean all the things you love have to go too!
Oh and don’t worry, we didn’t forget about your favorite four legged friends. We sell all the essentials that those little critters need and don’t need- think all natural cat nip in a cute little stuffed mouse!

Produce Department

All of the produce we sell is certified organic. That means that it was grown without the presence of bad chemicals and fertilizers. We get multiple shipments of produce a week to ensure that what is on our shelves is always fresh and tasty!

We make one exception; we welcome locally grown produce. Why make this exception? Bringing in locally grown produce allows us to support our local community. Most importantly though, by bringing in locally grown produce we are ensuring that the produce is at its ripest and filled with the most nutrients.

Meat Department

The meat department is here all day to cater to your needs. We slice our own meats and cheeses to ensure that you get as little or as much as you want. We carry various flavors of Boars Head lunch meat, cheeses and bacon. If you want to change things up a little, try one of our 5 flavors of yogurt cheese.

We also carry Buddy's All Natural Chicken. Buddy's is all natural, organic and free range. Their chickens are raised humanely with no growth stimulants, hormones or antibiotics. They are also minimally processed and use no artificial ingredients or preservatives.

And for all you Bar-B-Quer's out there, we have All Natural Beef Brisket. Hey, this is Texas right?

Deli/Bakery

Need a quick bite to eat for lunch? Really craving a protein packed smoothie? Want to pick up some cookies for your family? Well this department has it all for you.

Every morning before the majority of us are awake, the bakery is whipping up new and exciting creations. All of the ingredients used are natural or organic. By using healthy substitutes (oil instead of butter and flax meal instead of eggs), the items from the bakery are not only delicious but also healthy. We also have a large variety of gluten-free muffins, cookies, and sweet breads. Have a special event coming up? You can special order gluten- free, sugar-free and regular cakes! It doesn’t get much better than that.

Our famous chicken salad, cranberry edamame salad, deviled eggs, and many other dishes are prepared daily and make for a great on-the-go meal or a perfect side dish for your family.

Trying to eat according to a raw diet? How does Waldorf fruit salad, stuffed tomato or lasagna sound? We’ve got it and its made fresh just for you.
